Paul Schneider

"... and you shall remain my preacher." (Jeremiah 15, 19a)

Paul Schneider (August 29, 1897 - July 18, 1939) was a Protestant pastor, member of the Confessing Church and is a victim of the National Socialism.

Born in Pferdsfeld (now Bad Sobernheim), he was later a pastor in Dickenschied and Womrath in the Hunsrück region. He was imprisoned several times for his church resistance against the National Socialists and was ultimately murdered in Buchenwald concentration camp.

Later known as the "Preacher of Buchenwald"because, as a pastor, he called out to his fellow prisoners from his detention cell to encourage and comfort them. He was one of the first martyrs of the Protestant church during the Nazi regime.

The Evangelical Paul Schneider Community in Bad Sobernheim is committed to his life and death.
